The 20 Million Yard Golf Marathon

In a bid to do something constructive with my long Christmas break I applied for some PR-related work experience...

The first role I came across was for an events assistant at
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.I sent off my CV and later recieved a call from the charity’s recruitment manager to say my application had been successful.

My main role will be to promote The Muscular Dystrophy 20 million yard golf marathon. The basic idea of the campaign is that golfers attempt to play four different courses on a single day. The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign arranges the tee-times at each of the courses and the golfers raise sponsorship for their participation in the challenge.

During the internship I will be meeting with the main decision makers at local golf courses and explaining to them the benefits of signing up to the golf marathon. This will involve travelling to the golf courses and meeting face-to-face with the managers, making good use of PR and communication skills to sign up their support.

Another feature of the internship is getting the opportunity to spend two weeks with the charity’s in-house press team at their London office. While there I will be writing press releases and organising the distribution of media coverage for the golf marathon.

I am sure this role will help me make contacts within the PR industry, develop and demonstrate my writing skills and hopefully establish a reputation as someone who is engaged with PR.
