Reading, calculating, browsing?

In the last time was claimed that children should be educated in using new media, already in primary schools and I agree with that point of view. To tutor the younger generation how to use the internet without being used and without providing data of them is absolutely necessary. Thus the EU ran a survey to analyse the situation.
Sure, children have no bank account and no credit cards but they have a mobile number and an email address, so it is important to show them what it means to be transparent. It should be explained why their privacy and security is important and how to protect it. Otherwise they run the risk to become a victim of companies which use children as new target groups for their advertisement as they are young and easily influenced. With the collected data profiles can be established which help the companies to sell their products.

Another essential point is that teenager spent more and more of their spending time in the internet; e.g. they use Google to write their homework but they are not able to understand and use the information always correctly. Therefore it is absolutely required to teach children and teens a responsible and useful handling with the net, parallel to their reading and maths lessons.
